Part of the ‘Clyde Rebuilt’ running programme of regeneration, the bridge forms an important link between two retail centres.

The proposal integrates a kinetic high tensile canopy over an existing canal bridge. The bridge can be raised using hydraulic pistons to enable canal boats to pass. The new canopies are pinned to this mechanism. The canopies are evenly balanced onto a single turning fulcrum connection. A rod fastener linked to the bridge moves and rotates the canopies into an open position when the bridge is raised.

LED colour change lights illuminate the canopies at night and provides a semi-translucent landmark that can be viewed from the air on the Glasgow Airport approach route.
