Dundee City Council auctioned off the former Duntrune demonstration garden in 2006. Aim were commissioned by DDL to produce a series of four 300m2 Villa to reflect the massing and form of the existing terrace housing. The eventual design was a moderate contemporary solution to assimilate with the adjacent Victorian villas on Duntrune.

A simple palate of sandstone, white render and Iroko timber combine to provide a house with distinctive form from the square bay window on the front gable to the sandstone main gable and rebated front entrance. The inside of each house has open plan living spaces on the ground and 1st floor including 5 substantial bedrooms.

Existing mature planting and trees were protected to maintain screening from the street and a reference to the former Nursery Gardens use. Substantial gardens face South West to the rear of the properties offering privacy from Duntrune Terrace. The owners have praised the design and internal organisation of the house with particular praise received from new resident and TV presenter Lorraine Kelly.

Despite the project being procured as a design & build it was encouraging to see that our client has maintained the quality and material specification of the original proposals and exceeded in the quality of the completed residences.
